Pro

Pro

Pro

Containers on your servers,
without memorising docker commands

Connect and every container is there, grouped by compose project. Start, stop, read logs or open a shell in one click; get told when an image has a newer version and upgrade with automatic rollback; forward a container port straight to this computer.

  • Reuses the SSH connection — nothing to install on the server
  • Docker and Podman
  • Local Docker Desktop / OrbStack too
VsTerm Containers tab
Containers tab: a compose project with three services and a standalone container

What it does

Everyday container work, in one tab

Grouped by project

Compose services sit together with state, image, ports and uptime on one screen; CPU and memory on request.

Free

Logs and shells

A built-in log viewer, a shell inside the container, or follow-logs in the terminal — one click each.

Free

Image update check

Compares each image with its registry and flags containers still running an older image after the tag moved.

Free

Safe upgrades with rollback

Containers are recreated from their current settings with volume data kept; compose services go through pull / up. The old container stays until the new one is healthy.

Free

Ports to this computer

Forward a container port through the SSH connection with nothing opened on the server — unpublished ports included.

Free

Disk cleanup

See what images, containers, volumes and build cache use, then clean up with confirmation or one safe all-in-one cleanup.

Free

How to use it

Four steps

Connect

Hosts with Docker or Podman get a Containers tab. If the login user cannot reach the daemon, VsTerm tries sudo -n.

Manage

Each container row has its actions: start / stop, restart, logs, shell, forward a port, open its process.

Check updates

Click Check updates to flag newer images, pick a target version and upgrade — rolled back if it fails.

Free up space

The Disk view shows usage by type and cleans up only after you confirm.

Standard vs Pro

What is free, what is Pro

The rule is simple: viewing, troubleshooting and undo are always free; the time-saving setup wizards and deep tools are Pro. Every new install gets a 14-day Pro trial.

FAQ

About this feature

Does the server need an agent?

No. VsTerm runs the docker / podman CLI that is already on the server over the current SSH session and leaves nothing running.

What if an upgrade fails?

The old container is renamed and kept until the new one is up and healthy, and restored if any step fails. Containers with options that cannot be reproduced safely (--rm, --volumes-from, links…) are refused instead of guessed.

Can it manage containers on this computer?

Yes. On macOS it finds Docker Desktop, OrbStack, Rancher Desktop, Podman and Homebrew installs; on Windows it calls the local engine directly (no update check or upgrade there yet).

Does port forwarding open a port on the server?

No. It goes through the SSH connection and listens only on this computer; it closes with the connection and shows in the SSH tunnels panel.
